GEORGE TOWN: Penang today named its former state secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus as the chief executive officer for the recently established special purpose vehicle (SPV), Penang Infrastructure Corporation (PIC) Sdn Bhd.
PIC serves to lead the implementation of the Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP).
Describing Farizan’s appointment as apt, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow said Farizan had proven his competency based on his good reputation and success in the aspect of management and administration.
“Farizan’s appointment is part of efforts to ensure a successful and effective implementation of the PTMP. His appointment will further spur PIC as a mover in the PTMP,” Chow told newsmen at his office today.
Meanwhile, Farizan viewed the appointment as a new challenge and vowed to deliver the projects. “Besides implementing the three man-made islands under the Penang South Reclamation (PSR) project, I will also be overseeing projects under Consortium Zenith Construction (CZC) Sdn Bhd,” he said, referring to the three paired roads project and the controversial Penang Undersea Tunnel project.
On July 16, the Penang government announced the establishment of state-company, PIC, to undertake mega infrastructure projects under the PTMP encompassing the paired roads, undersea tunnel and PSR off the southern coast of the island.
PIC will also be involved in planning and developing the PSR area, including topside development.
