Note: Transit alignment & system subject to review prior to implementation.
The Penang Transport Master Plan (PTMP) is a comprehensive, efficient and well-connected transport strategy that sets the framework for an integrated and modern transport system.
It is based on feasibility studies with engineering design that determine constructability, cost benefit studies that determine economic viability, and a funding model that includes economic and social benefit assessments.
It covers both land and sea, comprising various transportation systems and services such as an elevated light rail transit (LRT) line, bus rapid transit (BRT), tram, taxi, e-hailing, ferry and water taxi.
The PTMP aims to improve the state’s road network and connectivity, as well as achieve a public:private transport modal share of 40:60.
PTMP components that are currently being implemented are the Ayer Itam – Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Bypass (Package 2), and Pan Island Link 2A.
Through PTMP, we can :
Mitigate worsening traffic congestion
Enhance accessibility and connectivity
Move people with alternative transportation modes
Improve standard of living, liveability and productivity
Enable sustainable growth of Penang’s economic engines (manufacturing & services)
Boost Penang’s appeal as an ideal business and tourism destination
