A NEW Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the Penang South Islands (PSI) project will be submitted to the Department of Environment (DoE) by the end of this month or early next month, says Penang Infrastructure Corporation (PIC) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Farizan Darus.

Farizan said the preparation of the new EIA report was in its final stage.

“The new EIA report will include latest data from hydraulic studies, Social Impact Assessment (SIA) studies, fisheries studies, and others,” he responded to a question by the media after the launching of the Koperasi Komuniti Pulau Pinang Selatan Berhad (KKPPSB) at Hotel Seri Malaysia Bayan Baru today.

Farizan said the state government had also earlier filed a judicial review at the High Court to challenge the revocation of its previous EIA approval for the PSI project.

“We are still awaiting the date for the hearing. Since the previous EIA approval was revoked, land reclamation works (physical works) will not commence. However, we can still work on the planning of the project,” he said.
