Celebrating Deepavali with the Seri Cahaya Welfare Home, Permatang Damar Laut
5 November 2021 – Pusat Perkhidmatan Setempat Nelayan (PPSN), the fishermen centre set up by the Penang Government, and Paraclete Wellness Chapter Sdn Bhd recently presented the Seri Cahaya Welfare Home with three festive hampers for its Deepavali celebration this year.
Seri Cahaya, which is located in Permatang Damar Laut in Batu Maung, is a charity home set up in 1999. It provides shelter to 25 children and 15 adults, including senior citizens and persons with special needs.
Penang Infrastructure Corporation chief executive officer Datuk Seri Farizan Darus said it was PPSN’s tradition to present gifts or donations to charity organisations like welfare homes and individuals with need to welcome every festive celebration. He also said Seri Cahaya was also a stakeholder in the State Government’s Penang South Islands (PSI) project.
“PSI aims to bring economic growth to Penang and development to the local community in the southern region of Penang Island, including the residents of Seri Cahaya in Permatang Damar Laut.
“So, as we celebrate Deepavali and enjoy our festive holiday, we also remember our friends at Seri Cahaya. We hope this small contribution will bring them some cheer this festive season.”
Farizan added that the practice of giving gifts during the festive season would also help strengthen friendship, kindness, harmony, unity and mutual respect among Malaysians of various religious and cultural backgrounds.
