01 Nov Southern Penang Fishermen Urged To Become Cooperative Members To Enjoy Benefits
GEORGE TOWN, Oct 25 (Bernama) — Eligible fishermen in southern Penang have been urged to register as members of Koperasi Komuniti Pulau Pinang Selatan Berhad (KKPPSB) to enjoy the benefits that the cooperative is offering.
State Agrotechnology, Food Security and Cooperative Development Committee chairman Fahmi Zainol said the benefits include future collaborative opportunities in projects such as aquaculture and seafood marketing through the Samudera Initiative, which aims to ensure sustainable income for fishermen while providing dividends to cooperative members.
“At its recent second annual general meeting, KKPPSB declared a five per cent dividend as proof of the cooperative’s efforts in adding value to the fishing community,” he said in a statement in conjunction with the opening of KKPPSB’s new office in Bayan Lepas today.
He said that as of September, KKPPSB had a total membership of 1,366, 368 of whom were fishermen, and that registration is still open for eligible fishermen.
Regarding the new office, Fahmi, also the president of KKPPSB, said it is another step to strengthen services further and expand the cooperative’s involvement in the local economy.
