03 Jul Free haircuts for homeless at transit centre
IN a heartwarming initiative, 102 homeless individuals received free haircuts at the Penang Homeless Transit Centre in Jalan C.Y. Choy, giving them a fresh look and renewed confidence.
The event, organised by Silicon Island Development Sdn. Bhd. (SIDSB) in collaboration with AnakPinang and supported by Baptain Salon hair stylists, also provided packed meals to the participants.
This act of kindness underscores the community’s commitment to supporting those in need.

Pulau Tikus assemblyman Joshua Woo, who joined the volunteers, praised the organisers and called on other corporations to follow suit.
“We should continue having such programmes that benefit more homeless people as we foster a compassionate and united community.
“The centre was established not just to provide temporary shelter but also to assist in finding job opportunities. The state government is working closely with the community to ensure no one is left behind,” Woo said recently.
State Social Development, Welfare and Non-Islamic Religious Affairs Committee chairman Lim Siew Khim highlighted the importance of personal image in job hunting.

“First impressions are crucial when meeting potential employers. Initiatives like the free haircut programme are timely in helping individuals increase their hiring opportunities.
“We welcome other non-governmental organisations and the private sector to collaborate with the state government in organising more welfare programmes,” she said.
