Balik Pulau residents welcome free health screening

Balik Pulau residents welcome free health screening

Published by The Star • 18/06/2022

Some of the participants say the screening is timely as they have not had any checks for two years due to the pandemic.

THE free health screening programme in Balik Pulau, Penang, received good response from fishermen and residents there.

Attendees of the programme held by Pusat Perkhidmatan Setempat Nelayan (PPSN) were given free health screening including blood glucose tests, body composition and blood pressure.

Fisherman Saaroni Hassan, 72, from Permatang Damar Laut commended the programme and called for it to be organised annually.

“It is good to participate in this programme as I do annual check-ups for early detection of any illness,” he said.

Sungai Batu resident Sarina Jaafar, 56, said the programme benefitted the locals.

“The free screening is timely because I have not undergone any health screenings for two years due to Covid-19.”

She said it would create awareness among residents to be more mindful of their health.

The statement by SRS Consortium, the project delivery partner of the Penang South Reclamation (PSR), said the PPSN team had also been going on numerous engagement sessions with fishermen and residents to get their perspective on the PSR project.

According to Penang Infrastructure Corporation chief executive officer Datuk Seri Farizan Darus, over 45,000 people had been engaged on the project to date.

“The proactive approach is in line with the Penang 2030 vision which prioritises the interest of the people in state development projects,” he added.
